This is particularly useful for curbs and small steps, allowing the chair to tilt back as required without gravity taking over. How to measure for the correct size wheelchair
To measure a person to determine which seat size is appropriate you will take their hip measurement.
Use a retractable metal tape and measure straight across the body.
Place the person in an upright seated position before taking the measurement.
Take the measurement at the widest point of their body (for instance if their thighs become bigger than their hips when seated then use this dimension instead).
Add 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5.1 cm) to this measurement to account for slight movements and comfort when the person is sitting in the wheelchair

‘‘I am a post brain injury wheelchair user and wanted a self propelled chair, to help my rehab efforts. While I do need help to get about, I can at times wheel myself and the feeling of independence is sublime. I have weakness one side but find the chair light and easy to push and manoeuvre, for as long as my energy allows.
I use the smallest size chair in this range and have no problem with doorways either at home or out and about. My helpers find the chair light to push and carry and given my smaller home, the option of being able to fold it down for ‘parking’ is fab.
The option to lower the armrests is also brilliant, meaning I can sit properly at tables in cafes or at the computer desk at the library, without having to transfer to a chair or sit out away from the table.
Being able to access an all terrain chair at this price, has enabled me to continue to access areas which are important to me and which would be inaccessible in a normal chair (fields, forests and even the beach are all on my todo list). I also find that the touch of suspension allowed by the MTB tyres, ensures a smoother ride on any surface (my brain can’t cope with being rattled, so solid wheel bone shakers, are not a safe option for me).
